"Being brought up by boyz under deep hiphop cultured environment is not exactly what made me to do hiphop, i remember it was after my classmate Lillo Kiguta in class 4 who loved alot of poetry writting and a die hard fan of RnB genre of music that made me to realize my inner passion of music, it wasn't yet over, God had a real plan for my life" reveals Donald who is known to many as Yung Donald
Donald Ngovi is an uprising christian HipHip Rapper from Nairobi Kenya. Donald was born and raised in Nairobi under a christian family, his mom being a preacher. he went to school at Thika Road Primary School in Nairobi (behind the NYS headquarters alongside super highway opp Utalii Hotel). he later joined Ruaraka High School also in Nairobi in which he completed in 2013
Through his upbringing, Donald has been raised under a background in an deep HipHop cultured environment. Most of his time , he spent watching his elder boys playing basket ball and listening to hiphop music.
To him, hiphop seemed to be away of communicating problems affecting the society. It was until God changed his life and turned his talent into a way of spreading Gods message.
Yung Donald began rapping at the age of 11yrs still at Thika Road Primary School
where he was nicknamed by his fellow schoolmates ''youngest rapper'', until later he decided to call himself Yung Donald
he was always proud of the school since it had alot of talented rappers , his best moments were when they organised 'rap compe'. this molded him to be who he is and who he will be.
"i'll never forget when we used to do 'rap battle' in primary school and Klub Kiboko used to show it Live on KTN, those were the best moments of my life" says Yung Donald
Yung Donald is known by
his rapping skills on a trap beat, where his voice is characterized by variety of styles patterns with the dirty south accent and style.
"when i was trynna learn some RnB, i realized that i could fuse it with the hiphop i knew, and it turned to be something else pure hiphop or lets call it Trap Music, well.. RnB helped me in expressing my voice and in different ways when am rapping lemie say the slang... lol!!"
In 2010, (first year in high school) he recorded "am not ashamed" which got played on few local radio stations.
in 2011, (second year in high school) he recorded "cry no more" which didn't do well. and since he was balancing music and school he had pause abit that was 2012.
But at the middle of his final year in high school(2013) he went back to studio and did "
" which he says was random song that caught the attention of international Christian hiphop radio stations like Unleashed Radio, Art Soul Radio, Ngen Radio among others,
So far he has done 1 solo album in which he has also released singles like "Its Only The Beginning version-1 (free flow)"
He is currently working for his next project(album) called "Reality Come Back"
Donald promises to be an ever hitting rapper whose aim is to change lives of many people by spreading Gods message all over the world through hiphop.
Yung Donald is a member of Parklands Baptist Church westlands Nairobi where he serves as an active member of Parkie Youth Ministry
